7 Quick takes

1. (Tops by far) I'm a godmother!!! I'm so, so excited by this. Friends of ours called last night and asked us whether we'd be godparents for their daughter, who is due in November. Um, YES!!!! I'm so touched they thought of us, and told them that I hope they don't regret asking an infertile gal because I'm totally going to spoil their daughter!!

2. Speaking of, let me know if you have any good ideas for baptism gifts for a godchild! I bought her a rosary today, topaz since her due date is November, and I'm going to pray some rosaries for her before her baptism. So that will be part of the present. And I want to sew something - maybe a blanket or a...hmm, actually I have no idea what to sew for a baby!

3. Switching gears...I'm trying tamoxifen for the first time this month. Three pills down, two to go. So far it's okay. I do feel a little...funny. I'm probably over-analyzing every little twinge, but my cramps felt a little worse (you take tamoxifen days 3-7) and I felt a little hyper and emotional...but to be honest, it's not like that's anything drastically different! We'll see if it helps. I'm not feeling very optimistic, but Mr. M was really onboard so I figured I'd try it.

4. I'm also doing the B6 protocol this cycle to try and increase my cervical mucus. It's 500 mg which seems like a lot! I feel like a little old lady taking all my pills in the morning (multi-vitamin, flax oil, fish oil, tamoxifen, five B6 tablets)

5. We've been talking more about adoption lately. I guess reaching the 2 year mark of TTC was a little sobering. We might go to an informational meeting at a local agency, just to put our foot in the water. I feel excited about that, mostly. Not that it doesn't seem basically impossible to ever get enough money to adopt...but I think it will be good just to do something, learn some more about what is involved. (If any of you adoptive moms or those trying to adopt have suggestions for good books, please let me know.)

6. Weekend plans: date night Friday! We're going to see "despicable me 2" because we both want a good laugh =) and then we're having a friend over for Peruvian chicken on Saturday. And there's actually some free time this weekend, so I want to get to the library, maybe can some salsa, clean the bathroom...exciting plans =)

7. Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I have a godson and I always give him books. Books of stories of the Bible. Well, your goddaughter is too small for books so maybe a medal so she can wear around her neck, a cross for her wall, or a little angel statue. Just some ideas, have fun this weekend :)

  3. We are reading Dr. Ray's book on adoption and it is in question/answer format. It has some good advice on how to prepare for adoption and to think about it long term. Congrats on your godbaby! We saw despicable me 2 last week and loved it, enjoy :)

    1. Thanks! I've heard a few people recommend Dr. Ray's book, so I need to check it out. And I'm glad you liked the movie! I feel like a little kid watching cartoons but they're so fun and happy and lift our spirits =)

  4. Have a great weekend! :)

The books I recommend I listed here: http://isaiahfiftyfive.blogspot.com/2013/02/adoption-discernment.html

And I just finished reading In A Heartbeat by Leighanne and Sean Touhy - the couple from the movie the Blind Side. It was really good. And funny in a lot of places!!

    2. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to the library today to see what they have before buying anything.

  5. Congrats on the goddaughter! Maybe you could sew a quilt? Round-the-world quits are really easy and can be made kid/baby sized. Also, the design looks kind of cross-ish.

Can't wait to hear more about where the adoption adventure takes you :)

    1. Thanks! I'm going to look at some quilt patterns, and I'll keep in mind the "around-the-world" kind - hadn't heard of that before. I'm still a sewing novice, so easy is good! But I have several months, so time is on my side.

  6. Congratulations on your new god-daughter! Wonderful news! As for presents, would you be up to sewing a christening gown?

We just passed the two year mark as well....

    1. I love the christening gown idea! But the baby in question already has an heirloom gown, used by her big brother and I imagine they'll use it for her too.

  7. 6- I hear you on the too many pills! I'm adding 2 new sets this cycle (clomid, and mucinex). I just have to keep them straight and remember the days... what to take CD 3-5, CD 10-P+1, P+3-12, twice a week, every day... yikes!

I like the quilt idea. We got our Goddaughter a rosary and a silver box to keep it in, engraved with her name and baptism date. (http://www.thingsremembered.com/home.jsp) I also knit her a blanket.

  8. Ecce,

#4-I have to laugh.. at one point I was taking about 12-14 pills a day. Now I take 8 a day. Mostly vitamins and herbs. I am finding good results from taking Fairhaven FertileCM to increase my cervical mucus. My NaPro Dr. said to give it a try. I was also taking B6, but I forgot to reorder. So I guess my supplements will increase by one, as soon as I reorder. :)

Congratulations on becoming a Godparent! That is so exciting. I think your ideas are really good-the rosary and a quilt or blanket. Along with a note about the rosaries you've prayed for the baby.

I am going to poach the book suggestions people provide for adoption. :D We are beginning to research adoption too.
